The Bath Aphasia choir is led by Music Therapists Laura Cook and Denise Wong.
We are an aphasia friendly hybrid choir based in Bath. We meet at 2.00 – 3.30 pm on Wednesday afternoons in term time, at St. Andrew’s Community Church, Hawthorn Grove, Foxhill, Bath, BA2 5QA.
Laura leads the choir, whilst Denise accompanies alongside Tony, a stroke survivor on the guitar.
What is the choir like?
At the sessions we do some warm ups, then sing through some familiar songs. We share the words on a projector screen, with pictures to support with reading. Some people use the words and others find it easier to watch my mouth and copy as I sing. You can also hum, sing to ‘la’ or any other sound you find easy, or just listen.
We have a live online feed from the venue on Zoom, and people join us to sing along at home. People on zoom will be muted while we sing together, because of the timing differences. They will hear the sound of us singing in the hall and can sing along at home.
We sing for around an hour and ten minutes, and then have tea, coffee and biscuits and a chance to socialise at the end. The choir is a very friendly and welcoming bunch and we also like to have fun while singing!
