Aphasia Choir performance at UWE Partnership Event Day, 11th Feb 2026
The UWE Partnership Day was an event organised by and at the University of the West of England, Bristol, showcasing the partnership work that happens within our UWE programmes. In particular, we were able to showcase the range of different opportunities that students are currently pursuing with VOA. Voices of Aphasia’s presentation with the students was headlining the event, so we organised a Bath Community Transport minibus to get our Bath members to perform with us in Bristol that day!
Sociology students have been embedded from the start of the Bristol Aphasia choir on placement and have been taking on awareness-raising efforts. This partnership has also led to an exciting co-production project for one of our project students building understandings of the experience of claiming Personal Independence Payment for people with aphasia. Our presentation will showcase how the charity has created an active learning environment for UWE students while building a supportive and thriving community for people with aphasia in the Bristol and Bath region.
After the student presentations, the Bath aphasia Choir, together with members from our new Bristol Aphasia Choir, performed five songs together, including two of the sogns that were written by the Bath Choir ourselves. We have received really great feedback from the staff and audience who were there, saying “how emotional it was and that they now have a greater understanding of people living with aphasia.”
